Canada holiday, 2004
Some of these were taken by Julie's Casio EX-Z40 |
This year we went back to Canada where we spent most of our time at
Whistler, staying at Treeline apartment 24. |
#24 is owned by Bruce Warner at treeline24@hotmail.com |
Here's some more of Timberline |
| |
Our first activity was Tim's birthday |
| |
Here's me, Mandy (Tim's gf), Tim, Mitchell and
Julie. |
The cake |
Tim and Mandy |
| |
| While Mandy was there we had a nice walk around Lost Lake |
| |
Thanks for the family photo, Mandy |
And thanks for the nice handbag, Mandy |
On another walk near Lost Lake we saw a chipmunk in a tree |
| |
| Tim spent most of the year (February to October) in Whistler
working and having fun (note the broken wrist). Most of the time he
was loading/unloading people on the lifts. He also worked on trail
building on the mountain bike park. |

At the bottom of Wizard Express on Blackcomb |
At the top of Horstman T-bar on the Glacier at the top of Blackcomb |
| There's always lots of flowers around the village |
| |
In the village |
Out of town |
Nicklaus North golf course |
| |
| Just beside the golf course you can get onto a seaplane for
joy flights or travel around the region |
| |
I really like this photo but think the camera should have been a fraction
lower |
An interesting boat at the wharf in Nanaimo |
| |
| After a while we went to Vancouver Island to visit friends |
| |
Leaving from Departure Bay, North Vancouver |
On the Queen of Oak Bay |
There's lots of room on the decks for passengers |
| |
| |
| |
And for trucks and cars |
Here's what a ferry looks like |
And arrived at Nanaimo |
| |
| Our friends Ruth and Dan Dempsey looked after us while we
stayed in Victoria. Dan is ex-Snowbirds (Canadian Air Force Aerobatics)
and has a book entitled "A Tradition of Excellence" |
| |
Here's a nice sunset from Mount Douglas Park, Victoria |
| |
| Our next stop was Tofino, on the west coast of Vancouver
Island. We stayed at ??? |
| |
They had a nice BBQ hut, but the weather wasn't very nice |
And Mitchell wasn't impressed |
At least we got him outside to take our photo |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| On the way back from Tofino we stopped at Cathedral Grove,
supposedly the home of the tallest redwood in North America |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| Then we got to Parksville on the east coast of Vancouver
Island. The tide goes out a long, long way... |
| |
High tide |
Low tide |
500 metres out to "sea" at low tide |
| |
| Back at Whistler it was time for Crankworx, one of the big
downhill/freeride festivals going |
| |
Racing chair on A-Line |
And some normal downhillers. Interesting exposure? |
| |
| |
| |
The 4x course |
Eric Carter, Cedric Gracia and Brian Lopes |
And they're away for the finals... |
| |
| Then came the SlopeStyle |
| |
Tim surveying the course |
Good thing Julie took this photo. I was too busy watching the action |
| |
| This from the top of Blackcomb. It takes three lifts
and a bus ride to get there. |
| |
This is from the top of Blackcomb looking over the Glacier. Not much
skiing left... |
| |
| |
| |
On the way back down Blackcomb |
| |
| |
Some of the lodges on the way |
| |
| Now here we are at the top of Whistler |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| We also went over to Vancouver Island and visited friends at
Saanich, ??? and Parksville. The lowlight (for me at least) was a few
miserable days at Tofino. |
