The Department played a leading role in organizing all these international conferences. The OHTA 2000 speakers are eminent leaders in their respective areas. The SJOM 2000, initiated and co-organized by the Department, has become the first of a series of such Sino-Japan optimization meetings. The OCA 2001 was the second international workshop organized by Asian mathematicians for the International School of Mathematics "G. Stampacchia" in Italy. The 5th ICOTA 2001 was a large-scale conference with over 250 participants.
